May is National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month. C-F is a major life-shortening inherited disease of young people, currently affecting 30-thousand children and young adults in the United States. This genetic disorder particularly affects the lungs and digestive system, and makes people more vulnerable to repeated lung infections. Boomer Esiason, former N-F-L M-V-P and C-F dad, has joined with the Chiron Corporation to honor these everyday heroes who live with the challenge of cystic fibrosis.
A lot of people in our country view athletes as heroes and thats fine, but watching a child deal with a disease like cystic fibrosis makes you realize that sports in general is trivial compared to the life-battles that these children with C-F fight. And Chiron has been gracious to honor these kids which is truly the best way, I think, to significantly put a face on this disease, to show people truly how courageous our patients really are.
