New State Laws Tackle Spring Break Fake ID's

From Panama City to South Padre Island, hundreds of thousands of students are heading for a blowout party: Spring Break, 2005.  A lot of the socializing is centered around alcohol, and many underage wannabe drinkers are buying or making fake ID's to get it.  Over a third of underage drinkers have used fake or borrowed ID's to get alcohol. But if they don't have a fake ID, 65 percent of them turn to family and friends, says a Century Council research study.  But a crackdown is on the way. Groups, including Diageo, the world's leading premium drinks company, are behind tough new state laws.  Carolyn Panzer, Diageo Senior V.P.:

"We're supporting federal and state legislation to get tough on the adults who knowingly and illegally furnish to kids and the kids who use fake ID's to buy the alcohol."

So far, 12 states are considering laws that would impose strict penalties, including the revocation of driving privileges.  And now the U.S. Congress is even taking up the issue.
