Recent Changes to Pell Grants Concern Students on Financial Aid

Congress has changed the criteria for students to receive financial assistance from the federal government. The recent spending bill revised the tax-rate formulas that determine a student�s qualification for aid. It was the first adjustment in 10 years and was long overdue, but as a result, many students will now be ineligible for aid and others will receive less than in the past. This is of concern to many students, as those who are in need of the most financial aid may not get what they need. A setback in financial aid availability to these students could force many of them to take out supplemental loans to cover their costs.
